The Sriganganagar police have arrested Kapil Bansal, who runs an immigration and tour & travel agency, on charges of fraud. Investigating officer ASI Satveer Singh Rathore said that during the remand period, steps would be taken to recover certain important documents belonging to the victim from him.
Jaspreet Kaur, a resident of Bathinda, had filed a case on July 8, accusing Kapil Bansal of swindling lakhs of rupees by promising to send her to Europe on a work visa. On December 29, 2025, she visited Sriganganagar, handed over all her documents to Kapil Bansal, and reportedly paid an initial amount of Rs 20,000 in cash. She was informed that the total cost would be Rs 9.50 lakh, with the remaining balance to be paid upon arrival in Europe. By January 11, she had paid Rs 3.50 lakh through a combination of cash and online transactions. She told the police that Kapil Bansal’s wife, Poonam, had assured her that the visa would be processed via the Dubai route. After working there for a short period, she would be sent to Europe using an employee ID. On January 18, the accused couple reportedly asked her to book a ticket to Dubai for February 2. The ticket was booked, but a few days later, it was cancelled under the pretext that the ‘entry pass’ had not reached.
Jaspreet alleged that whenever she tried to contact the couple, they would make various excuses. Eventually, they stopped answering her calls and were unavailable whenever she visited their office. In a subsequent mediation meeting (panchayat), they reportedly assured her she would be sent to Europe by May 30, promising to refund the entire amount if they failed to do so. However, nothing happened after May; the accused couple kept stalling and ultimately flatly refused to fulfill the promise.
Jaspreet finally submitted a complaint to the Superintendent of Police (SP). Acting on the SP’s orders, the Sadar police station registered a case.
