Juvenile delinquents beat a security guard to death at the State Observation and Juvenile Home located on the Sriganganagar-Padampur road. Upon receiving the information, Superintendent of Police (SP) Hari Shankar Yadav, Additional SP Deepak Sharma, DSP (City) Vishnu Khatri, Purani Abadi SHO Suman Parihar, and the Juvenile Home Superintendent Rajiv Jakhar—arrived at the scene. They analysed the sequence of events using footage from the CCTV cameras installed in the facility.
SP Hari Shankar Yadav said that the deceased security guard has been identified as Sahib Ram; he was an ex-serviceman. Analysis of the CCTV footage indicates that at least three juvenile delinquents were involved in the killing. They struck the guard repeatedly on the head and legs with a wooden plank. He died on the spot due to a severe head injury. The guard had shouted loudly while being attacked. At that time, another security guard was on the first floor of the facility; by the time he rushed to the scene, Sahib Ram had already succumbed to his injuries.
FSL (Forensic Science Laboratory) and MOB (Modus Operandi Bureau) teams were summoned to scientifically collect evidence from the crime scene. After these teams completed their procedures, Sahib Ram’s body was shifted to the district hospital mortuary.
Based on the preliminary investigation, the SP stated that for the past two or three days, the juvenile inmates had been preparing for a program scheduled for the upcoming Independence Day (August 15). Sahib Ram had entered the ward area opposite his guard room to counsel the inmates and assist with the program preparations. He was suddenly attacked just as he was about to step out.
Sources revealed that there was a total of 27 juvenile inmates in the home. Among them, some were detained for murder, while others were held under the NDPS Act.
