KHUDDIAN REVIEWS ‘YUDH NASHYA VIRUDH’ CAMPAIGN IN FEROZEPUR, ORDERS STRICT ACTION AGAINST DRUG SMUGGLERS

Punjab Cabinet Minister Gurmeet Singh Khuddian on Thursday chaired a review meeting of the state government’s ‘Yudh Nashya Virudh’ campaign at the District Administrative Complex here, calling for intensified efforts to completely eliminate drug abuse and trafficking from the state.

The meeting was attended by officials of the district administration and police, besides district, constituency and block-level coordinators and volunteers associated with the anti-drug campaign.

Addressing the meeting, Khuddian said the government had adopted a zero-tolerance policy towards drug trafficking and warned that anyone found involved in the illegal trade would not be spared. He said the fight against drugs was not the responsibility of the government alone but of the entire society.

He directed the senior police officials to identify villages affected by drug abuse and take strict action against those involved in drug trafficking. He also urged residents to immediately inform the police about drug peddlers in their areas, assuring that the identity of informants would be kept confidential.

Khuddian said the government was also focusing on preventing youth from falling prey to drugs by promoting sports and developing stadiums in villages so that youngsters could access sports facilities close to their homes.

He urged social organisations and NGOs to coordinate with the civil and police administration to strengthen the campaign. He also said people who had become addicted to drugs could be treated and should be identified and admitted to government de-addiction centres, where free treatment was available.

On the occasion, Ferozepur Urban MLA S. Ranbir Singh Bhullar, Ferozepur Rural MLA Mr Rajnish Kumar Dahiya, Guruharsahai MLA S. Fauja Singh Sarari, SSP S. Bhupinder Singh Sidhu, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Mr Krishna Pal Rajput, Malwa Zone Vice Coordinator of the Nasha Mukti Morcha Gurpreet Singh, and District Coordinator Harjinder Singh (Kaka Saran) were also specially present.

DRUG SMUGGLER HOUSE DEMOLISHED

Meanwhile acting on the government’s anti-drug drive, Ferozepur Police and the Revenue Department in a joint operation, demolished the illegal property of identified drug smuggler Sona Singh at Chinne Wala Jhugge in the Sadar area today afternoon.

As per information , Sona Singh is facing prosecution under the NDPS Act in connection with trafficking commercial quantities of contraband.
