A 28-year-old man was shot dead allegedly by his uncle during a confrontation over a land dispute at Mansoorwal Kalan village in Zira sub-division on Tuesday.
The deceased, Gurwinder Singh (28), was allegedly shot three times by his uncle Jaswinder Singh, who used his licensed pistol during the confrontation. The accused fled the spot after the shooting and police have launched a manhunt to nab him.
As per information, the two families had been at loggerheads over a few marlas of land for some time. The dispute escalated around 11 am when Gurwinder and Jaswinder came face to face and an argument broke out over the land.
During the heated exchange, Jaswinder allegedly pulled out his licensed pistol and opened fire at Gurwinder. Three bullets hit the youth, who died on the spot.
The incident triggered panic in the village, following which the police were informed. Senior police officials, including SHO Zira Sadar Inspector Gurpreet Singh, reached the spot and initiated an investigation.
The body was sent for post-mortem examination after the initial investigation at the scene.
The police are also examining CCTV footage of the incident to establish the sequence of events. The SHO said teams had been deployed to trace Jaswinder and efforts were on to arrest him.
As per information, Gurwinder was unmarried and had a sister.
