Through a letter signed jointly by AAP Punjab incharge Manish Sisodia and state president Amar Arora on Friday, Dr. Suhani Doda has been appointed Halqa Incharge in place of Arun Narang, a former MLA who had quit the office following her induction in the Aam Aadmi Party. However, Arun Narang had resumed political activities after quitting the office independently a few days later.
Liquor baron Shiv Lal Doda’s daughter-in-law, Dr. Suhani Doda, had last month joined the Aam Aadmi Party in the presence of Manish Sisodia and Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema.
Shiv Lal Doda had unsuccessfully contested Vidhan Sabha election as an independent candidate against Sunil Jakhar in 2012 and lost by a margin of 9788 votes. In the 2017 election, his family openly supported Arun Narang who contested on the BJP ticket and won. However, Narang lost to Sandeep Jakhar in the 2022 elections by getting 21,534 only and trailed behind the AAP candidate Kuldeep Kumar.
The court of District and Session Judge Fazilka, in August 2019, sentenced Shiv Lal Doda and 24 others to life imprisonment in an infamous case of brutal murder of Bhim Tank a 27-year-old Dalit youth at Doda family’s farm house in Ramsara village in December 2015. Doda’s bail plea had been accepted by the Apex Court in February this year.
On her appointment as Halqa Incharge, Suhani expressed gratitude to the party high command, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Manish Sisodia, and Aman Arora. She said that along with taking the policies of the Aam Aadmi Party and the government’s public welfare initiatives to every household, efforts would be made to strengthen the organization further by taking workers along.
