An old rivalry turned fatal in Alike village of this border district when a group of around two dozen armed men allegedly stormed a house and killed one Gurbachan Singh (48).
According to the family members, the assailants broke open the door of the house at around 11.30 pm and attacked Gurbachan with sharp-edged weapons and sticks. Family members who rushed to save him were also allegedly assaulted.
The injured man was being taken to hospital but succumbed to his injuries on the way.
The family members alleged that the attack was linked to an old dispute involving one of Gurbachan Singh’s relatives. They claimed the accused had developed a grudge against Gurbachan Singh after he objected to them stopping the relative from visiting their house.
SHO Gurvinder Kumar said a case has been registered on the statement of the deceased’s wife and raids are being conducted to arrest the accused. Preliminary investigation revealed that Gurbachan Singh suffered serious head injuries, which proved fatal. Further investigation is underway.
