MAYOR POOJA WADHWA DEMANDS FULL-TIME COMMISSIONER FOR ABOHAR MC

Raj Sadosh/Abohar.

Raising the issue of appointing a regular and full-time Commissioner for the Abohar Municipal Corporation, Mayor Pooja Wadhwa has urged the Punjab government to end the vacuum to accelerate development works and streamline administrative operations, which have been hampered for a long time.

During the 118th National Executive Meeting of the All India Council of Mayors at Chandigarh, the Abohar Mayor prominently raised the issue of the lack of a regular Commissioner for the Abohar MC, before Governor Gulab Chand Kataria. She pointed out that no regular Commissioner has been appointed for the past 3.5 years. Currently, as the administration is being managed through officials holding additional charges, both routine administrative tasks and works related to development and public amenities are being adversely affected.

Mayor Pooja Wadhwa said that running a crucial local body like the Municipal Corporation without a regular Commissioner for an extended period is not in the city’s interest. Due to officials holding additional responsibilities, Abohar is not receiving the requisite time and attention regarding administrative priorities. This is directly impacting the city’s development projects, sanitation systems, civic amenities, and the resolution of public grievances.

She emphasized that this is not merely an issue concerning a specific political party or individual, but a matter of public interest affecting lakhs of Abohar residents. She appealed to the Punjab government to rise above political differences and appoint a regular Commissioner for the Abohar Municipal Corporation.

The Mayor also noted that MLA Sandeep Jakhar had raised this issue in the Punjab Legislative Assembly and through other platforms but action was awaited.

During the meeting of the All India Mayors’ Council, this matter was treated with seriousness; it was decided to raise the issue with the Governor of Punjab and demand a swift resolution.
