Face2News/Chandigarh

A 55-year-old cashier was shot dead in a broad daylight firing incident at Shree Kumar Medical Store in Sector 11, Chandigarh, on Saturday afternoon.

According to police and eyewitness, two unidentified assailants entered the medical store around 2:30 p.m. posing as customers. Both suspects were wearing masks and were reportedly carrying automatic firearms. After entering the shop, they allegedly loaded their weapons while standing behind the counter and then opened fire on the cashier, who was seated at the counter.

The victim has been identified as Janki Dass, a resident of Rohru in Himachal Pradesh. He sustained gunshot injuries and died in the attack.

Witnesses said the attackers arrived on a scooter, parked it outside the store, and fled immediately after the shooting. Although both men were armed, eyewitnesses reported that only one of them fired the shots.

Following the incident, Chandigarh Police cordoned off the market area and launched major hunt to nab killers.

Police teams are examining CCTV footage and recording statements from eyewitnesses to identify the suspects.

Reports indicate that the owner of Kumar Medical Store had previously received threats allegedly linked to the Goldy Brar Gang and had been provided police security. However, authorities have not  issued any confirmed any connection between the gang and the shooting.

Senior police officials, including DSP Dalbir Singh, officers from Police Station Sector 11, the District Crime Cell, Crime Branch, and Operation Cell, reached the scene shortly after the incident. Security has been tightened across Chandigarh, with checkpoints established throughout the city and in neighboring areas of Panchkula and Mohali.
