MINOR FIRE INCIDENT CONTAINED AT BLOOD BANK, GMSH-16

Face2News/Chandigarh

A minor fire incident occurred in the Blood Bank of GMSH-16 during the early morning hours of Tuesday. The situation was swiftly brought under control, preventing any major damage or disruption to services.

The incident was first detected by the staff on duty, who immediately alerted the security personnel. The security staff responded without delay and successfully extinguished the fire, ensuring that it did not spread further.

Senior hospital authorities, including the Director Health Services (DHS), Medical Superintendent (MS), Deputy Medical Superintendent (DMS), and the Incharge Blood Bank, reached the site promptly and reviewed the situation. Necessary safety measures were immediately directed to safeguard the premises and ensure continuity of essential Blood Bank operations.

Preliminary assessment indicates that the fire was likely caused by a short circuit in the air-conditioning unit installed in the Blood Bank area. The affected zone was promptly secured, and precautionary measures were taken on site.

Importantly, no loss of life or injury has been reported. There is also no significant damage to blood stocks, equipment, records, or infrastructure at this stage.

A detailed technical inspection is currently underway to determine the exact cause of the incident and to recommend further preventive measures.
