Raj Sadosh/Abohar.
The MLA Sandeep Jakhar, accompanied by the Mayor Pooja Wadhwa and members of slain youth Ajay’s family, was detained on his way to meet Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. Jakhar had at the Civil Hospital dharna warned that he would go to CM’s rally site if denied time to meet and seek justice for Ajay
The situation at the Civil Hospital became tense following this incident.
The MLA explained that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was visiting Abohar today to launch the ‘Mawan Dhiyan Satkar Yojana’. Jakhar had planned to facilitate a meeting between the victim’s family and the Chief Minister, allowing the family to personally convey their suffering and demand concrete action to ensure justice.
According to Jakhar, the Mayor and four members of the victim’s family were also part of the group intending to meet the Chief Minister, but the police prevented the meeting. The MLA alleged that the police stopped and detained him and his supporters at the Civil Hospital itself. Consequently, the members of the victim’s family were denied the opportunity to present their grievances to the Chief Minister.
MLA Jakhar remarked that while the Chief Minister is visiting to launch a scheme cantered on the respect of women and the general public in Punjab, a family seeking justice in a murder case is not even being permitted to meet him.
He added that the family has been in a state of deep shock since Ajay’s murder and, to this day, sees no tangible hope of receiving justice. But, instead of their voices being heard, actions are being taken to suppress them.
Jakhar alleged that the Punjab government is operating with a dictatorial attitude. In a democracy, elected representatives and the aggrieved family should have the right to present their concerns before the Chief Minister. He questioned why the government is so troubled by a victim’s family that merely seeks to meet with the Chief Minister.
He said that their demand is clear: there must be an impartial investigation into the murder of Ajay, strict action must be taken against the perpetrators without delay. Mere announcements and assurances will not alleviate the family’s suffering.
Ajay was shot outside Shri Valmiki Mandir Dharamshala in Sant Nagar on September 27 and died during the treatment. His family has refused a post mortem and continued dharna outside the mortuary that stands locked by the authorities.
