To ensure the safe transportation of school children, Panchkula Police conducted a special checking drive against overloaded autos and school buses not following safety rules. Commissioner of Police IPS Pankaj Nain has directed the Traffic Police to take strict action against vehicles violating safety norms and ensure that there is no compromise with the safety of school children.
According to DCP Crime and Traffic IPS Amrinder Singh, Traffic Police teams conducted special checking of school vehicles across the district today. Teams led by City Traffic SHO Varinder Kumar and Surajpur Traffic SHO Abhishek checked overloaded autos and school buses. The teams inspected fire extinguishers, first-aid boxes, speed governors, fitness certificates, uniforms of drivers and conductors, required documents and other safety arrangements. During the checking drive, 23 autos and 9 school buses were challaned, while 2 vehicles were impounded.
Commissioner of Police IPS Pankaj Nain appealed to school managements and parents to cooperate with the police in ensuring the safety of children. He said parents should make sure that the vehicles used for transporting their children meet all safety standards. School managements should regularly check the fitness of vehicles, safety equipment, required documents and the eligibility of drivers and conductors. He also urged school managements and parents to keep a check on the condition of the vehicles and the number of children being carried in them. Any negligence or overloading should be reported to the police immediately.
