While interacting with the media here today, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gagan Ajit Singh discussed deeply the ongoing campaign against drug trafficking and various law and order issues in the district. Superintendent of Police (SP) Aswant Singh was also present on the occasion.
The SSP made it clear that no person involved in the drug trade would be spared. He warned that if the name of any police employee surfaces in connection with a drug-related case, strict action will also be taken against them. He said that the police department is continuously working to break the drug supply chain and intensify action against drug traffickers.
Newspersons, raising several important civic and policing issues, pointed out that City-II Police Station is not located within its designated jurisdiction and is instead situated in the area of City-I Police Station, which often causes delays in police response to incidents. Responding to the concern, the SSP said that the matter would be reviewed and appropriate steps would be taken.
The issue of increasing theft incidents in the city was also highlighted. The SSP said that the police are taking such incidents seriously and are enhancing patrolling and adopting other preventive measures to curb thefts. He acknowledged that the department is facing a shortage of manpower but added that efforts are being made to ensure effective policing despite the challenges.
The media persons also raised concerns regarding several non-functional CCTV cameras installed across the city. It was reported that many cameras have remained out of service for a long time, affecting crime monitoring and surveillance. The SSP assured that the concerned officials would be directed to take necessary action and resolve the issue at the earliest
