Harpreet Singh, alias Tinsy of Jalandhar, has been arrested for allegedly sending Rs 9 lakh via hawala from Dubai to Pakistani smugglers. This arrest is linked to a case involving heroin dropped by a Pakistani drone in the Sriganganagar district about 20 days ago. During preliminary interrogation, Harpreet Singh revealed that he had transferred the money via hawala to facilitate the smuggling of heroin across the international border near Sriganganagar.

On June 26, the police intercepted the smugglers’ vehicle and arrested Dharmendra Singh, alias Babbu of Bhaini Gujran (Jagraon, Ludhiana) and Jaswinder Singh, alias Jassi of Salempura. Authorities recovered 9 kg 908 grams of heroin and Rs 1.40 lakh in cash from their possession. That same day, the police also arrested Jaswinder Singh’s wife, Navjot Kaur, at their home, recovering half a kilogram of heroin from her.

Subsequently, the police arrested Amarjit Singh Ambi Sarpanch of Sidhwan Bet (Ludhiana) and Simarjit Singh Simar of Ladowal (Ludhiana). According to police sources, a total consignment of 10.5 kg of heroin was dropped via drone into a field near the Pakistan border; the field belongs to a relative of Jaswinder Singh.

This relative had sent Jaswinder Singh’s brother-in-law to retrieve the consignment from the field. Jaswinder Singh received the shipment on the morning of June 26. On the same day, Amarjit Singh and Simarjit Singh travelled from Punjab to Suratgarh, bringing Dharmendra Singh with them, and sent him to Jaswinder Singh to collect the consignment. When Dharmendra Singh was returning with the consignment, Jaswinder Singh got into the vehicle with him, as he was to receive Rs 5 lakh for safely delivering the shipment to Amarjit Singh and Simarjit Singh. The duo had given Dharmendra Singh Rs 1.40 lakh to hand over to Jaswinder Singh upon collecting the consignment; this was the very amount recovered by the police when they intercepted the vehicle in Jaitsar.
