PUNJAB AND HARYANA HIGHCOURT IMPOSES 25 THOUSANDS COST ON MOHALI DEPUTY MAYOR

Subhash Jindal/Chandigarh

Punjab and Haryana High Court Imposes Rs. 25 thousands cost on Mohali Deputy Mayor Kuljeet Singh Bedi for misusing Public Interest Litigation (PIL) Jurisdiction.

Deputy Mayor filed a PIL for personal cause.

The Court observed that a public interest litigation cannot be entertained where the cause raised is, in fact, a personal cause presented as a public cause. A division bench of Chief Justice Sheel Nagu and Justice Sanjiv Berry heard the case and imposed cost.

The petitioner has filed this Public Interest Litigation (PIL) assailing certain tender processes, especially in respect of up-gradation, resurfacing and beautification of roads and junctions in Mohali under Mohali’s Next Generation Programme.

On the last occasion, on the asking of this Court, the petitioner has filed an affidavit disclosing his political affiliation.
