SANGRUR POLICE TRACE TRIPLE BLIND MURDER CASE, WOMAN ARRESTED

Sangrur police have traced a triple murder case involving the alleged poisoning of three minor children by mixing a poisonous substance in sweets in Bhawanigarh police station area and arrested one accused, police said on Tuesday.

Sangrur SSP Dr Ravjot Grewal, IPS, said the three minor siblings — six-and-a-half-year-old girl Jasnoor Kaur, five-year-old Armandeep Singh and two-and-a-half-year-old Rihandeep Singh — had died after allegedly consuming poisonous sweets on Bakhopeer Road under the Bhawanigarh police station.

Initially, the incident was treated as a case of food poisoning and proceedings were initiated under Section 194 of the BNSS (corresponding to Section 174 of the CrPC) on the statement of the children’s father, Kulwinder Singh, son of Jarnail Singh, a resident of Bakhopeer Road, Bhawanigarh.

During the course of the investigation, police allegedly found that Kulwinder Singh’s wife, Lovepreet Kaur, was in an extramarital relationship with Harjit Singh, a resident of Jalalabad in Fazilka district. According to the police, Lovepreet Kaur allegedly conspired with Harjit Singh to eliminate her three children and mixed poison in sweets, resulting in their deaths.

Following the investigation, a case was registered against Lovepreet Kaur, wife of Kulwinder Singh and resident of Ward No. 7, Bakhopeer Road, Bhawanigarh, and Harjit Singh, a resident of Jalalabad, Fazilka district.

Sangrur and Bhawanigarh police teams, using human intelligence and technical inputs, arrested Lovepreet Kaur on September 22, police said.  The arrest of Harjit Singh is still pending, the SSP said.

Police said further interrogation of the accused would be conducted after obtaining her remand and that more important details were expected to emerge during the investigation.
