Schools and colleges—both government and private—will remain closed on Monday, August 17, 2026, in Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh.
The holiday has been announced to provide rest to teachers and students following their participation and engagements in Independence Day celebrations.
In Punjab, the district administrations of Jalandhar, Mohali, Patiala and Hoshiarpur have announced a holiday for all government and private schools and colleges.
Similarly, in Haryana, holidays have been declared at various places for schools and colleges following Independence Day functions held across the state.
In Himachal Pradesh, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has also announced a holiday for government schools on August 17. Likewise, schools in UT Chandigarh will remain closed on Monday.
