Face2News/Shimla

Acting swiftly and in accordance with the law against objectionable social media content that could disturb communal harmony and public peace, Shimla district police arrested accused Yudhvir Singh Bains on June 5, 2026.

A police spokesperson stated that a complaint was received at Baluganj Police Station alleging that Bains had uploaded a video on his Facebook account containing material capable of promoting hostility between different religious communities. The video allegedly included comments targeting a particular community and the use of offensive language.

The complainant expressed concern that the widespread circulation of the content could adversely affect law and order and communal harmony.

During the preliminary investigation and digital analysis, police found that the accused had allegedly been regularly sharing similar content on his social media platforms. Examination of the available videos and other digital evidence indicated, prima facie, that the material had the potential to create tension and enmity among different communities.

Based on the available facts and evidence, FIR No. 108/2026 was registered at West Police Station, Shimla, under Sections 196, 299, and 353(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and a detailed investigation was initiated.

During the investigation, the accused was formally served a notice and asked to join the inquiry. However, police said he failed to cooperate as required and allegedly attempted to obstruct the investigation process. Consequently, Section 221 of the BNS was also added to the case.

On the basis of evidence collected during the investigation, Yudhvir Singh Bains was arrested on Friday in accordance with legal procedures. The investigation is continuing.
Police also noted that the accused has previously been named in criminal cases, including: FIR No. 02/2025 at Una Police Station under Sections 420, 468, 471, and 120-B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), along with Section 13 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.

FIR No. 48/2026 at East Shimla Police Station under Sections 248, 351, and 356(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The police department reiterated that strict and impartial legal action will be taken against any act that threatens social harmony, public peace, or law and order. Authorities emphasized that misuse of social media platforms to spread hatred, create enmity, or disturb public order will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
