SHOOTOUT BETWEEN TWO GROUPS AT ABOHAR GRAIN MARKET; TWO LUXURY VEHICLES SMASHED

A shootout occurred between two groups at the Abohar grain market Thursday evening, during which attackers also smashed two luxury vehicles. One person injured in the incident was admitted to the government hospital; after receiving first aid, he was referred to Faridkot.

According to reports, two luxury vehicles arrived and stopped at Shed No. 7 of the grain market this evening, where a large number of youths were already present. Upon stepping out of an Innova, the occupants immediately attacked two luxury vehicles that were already parked there. Eyewitnesses said that the youths, who were armed, also joined in the attack on the vehicles, causing panic throughout the market. During the altercation, two shots were reportedly fired into the air, with the bullets passing over the shed, while the attackers completely wrecked the vehicles. Subsequently, the Innova attempted to run over a young man. He was injured and rushed to the hospital and later referred to Faridkot. The injured man has been identified as Vikramjit Singh, a resident of Jammu Basti.

Upon receiving news of the incident, SHO Ravinder Singh Bhiti arrived at the scene with a large police force; however, the attackers had already fled. Bystanders retrieved sharp-edged Kapas (large cleavers) that had been hidden inside large crop-cleaning machines and showed them to the police, indicating that the confrontation had been premeditated.

MLA Sandeep Jakhar visited the grain market upon learning of the incident. Jakhar remarked that incidents of assault and hooliganism are frequently occurring in the city, and the fact that open firing is now taking place is a matter of serious concern. If such conditions persist, the sense of insecurity among the general public will increase.
