All India Institute of Oilseeds Research (IIOR), Hyderabad, an institute of the Indian Center for Agricultural Research (ICAR), has selected the Faculty of Agriculture, Tantia University, Sriganganagar in the SCSP project for sunflower crop. Tantia University is the first private university to be selected for this project in Rajasthan.
Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, Dr. Ummed Singh Shekhawat said that under the leadership of project in-charge Dr. Jitendra Singh Ranaut, various programs like dissemination of improved sunflower varieties, distribution of quality seeds, demonstration of modern production techniques, training of farmers and technical guidance among the farmers of Sriganganagar district will be conducted through this project. This will help to increase farmers’ income, productivity of sunflower and encourage scientific and commercial cultivation of sunflower in Rajasthan.
University Vice Chairperson, Dr. Mohit Tantia said that the project will give a new identity to the research and extension work of the University at the national level and will prove to be extremely beneficial for the farmers.
Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) M.S. Saxena thanked Dr. R.K. Mathur Director of IIOR for expressing confidence in the university by providing this important project. Director (Academics and Research) Dr. Praveen Sharma expressed hope that this project will play an important role in effective dissemination of new agricultural technologies to the farmers. Rakesh Verma, Deputy Registrar and Agricultural Research Coordinator of the University, said that with the cooperation of the University Administration, this project will provide new impetus to agricultural research, innovation and farmer-centric programs.
