TEEJ MELA: SWINGS, GIDDHA-BHANGRA, KIKLI, PUNJABI DELICACIES SET THE MOOD

The Jakhar Trust organized the grand sixth edition of the ‘Mela Teeyan Da’ at Nehru Park. Imbued with the vibrant colours of the Sawan season and Punjabi culture, the fair saw enthusiastic participation from thousands of women, young girls, and children. MLA Sandeep Jakhar boosted the spirits of the attendees. He remarked that such traditional festivals not only serve as a medium to pass on our rich heritage to the next generation but also act as a bond uniting families and society.

A variety of entertaining activities, including traditional Sawan swings, Kikli, Giddha, and Bhangra made the event a big success. ‘Gali Chatkare Wali’ (Street of Flavours), featuring delicious delicacies, remained a major attraction for visitors. A ‘Shilap-Shringar Bazaar’ (Craft and Adornment Market) was also set up by local women entrepreneurs, showcasing stalls with various handicrafts, decorative items, and beauty accessories. Other highlights included the ‘Trinjana Selfie Point’—showcasing the rich folk culture of Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan—as well as Tambola and ‘one-minute games.’

A performance by a Punjabi Dhol troupe further enlivened the atmosphere, while the open stage, ‘Miss Teej,’ and ‘Mrs. Teej’ competitions added extra charm to the event. Over 200 attractive prizes were distributed through a lucky draw during the program. Luckily the rain stopped just a few minutes before the beginning of the Mela. Earlier AApna Abohar, Apni Abha” volunteers had made the park near and clean on Saturday.
