Raj Sadosh/Abohar.

The meeting called to administer oaths to new councillors and elect the Mayor was postponed today. The Commissioner was to come from Ferozepur for the elections. After the arrival of the newly elected councillors, the local administration said that today’s meeting had been postponed. Later Kuldeep Kumar, Superintendent in the office of Ferozepur Commissioner said in a letter that the meeting shall now be held on Friday at 4 PM.

In the May 26 elections, BJP candidates won in 28 out of 50 wards. Today Pooja Wadhwa was expected to be elected Mayor, Dharamveer Malkat as Senior Deputy Mayor and Deepak Chhapola as Deputy Mayor. The BJP high command had appointed former finance minister and senior leader Manpreet Singh Badal as the observer for the mayor’s election. Today he reached the residence of the Jakhar family in Subhash Nagar. Former state BJP chief Sunil Jakhar especially reached Abohar.

In the presence of MLA Sandeep Jakhar, Badal announced the names of Mayor etc. after discussing with BJP councillors. Pooja Wadhwa is the wife of Naresh Wadhwa, who has been victorious in local body elections several times. MLA Sandeep Jakhar said that the development work and other activities were affected due to the delay in forming the new board. He said that in the entire Punjab, only in Abohar did BJP win the corporation elections independently. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and his party were unhappy over this.
