Three elderly women, who had come to pay obeisance at Baba Hariram Mandir in Dholipal village on Abohar-Sadulshehar Road, were hit by a speeding car. One of them died, two were seriously injured but the car fled from the spot.
Ram Pratap (45) while filing a report at the Sadar police station said that his 80-year-old mother Rameshwari, neighbour Mam Kaur (75) and Savitri (70) had gone out for darshan at Baba Hariram temple in the morning as usual. They had just reached the area between the gate and the road when a speeding car coming from Hanumangarh hit them. The collision was so strong that all three fell on the road. According to the report, the car driver made no effort to save the women and fled away with the car.
Jaswant Singh, an acquaintance present at the spot, informed the family members. The family took the three injured women to the local hospital in Dholipal. After first aid they were referred to Hanumangarh. Mam Kauri died during treatment. The condition of Rameshwari and Savitri is said to be critical.
A case has been registered against the unknown car driver. The post mortem of the deceased Mam Kauri was conducted and the body handed over to the family.
