TWO, INCLUDING A MEDICAL STUDENT FROM SRIGANGANAGAR, DIE IN DEHRADUN FLOOD

In the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday, the strong current of a rain-swollen causeway in Dehradun’s Prem Nagar area swept away two vehicles. The incident claimed the lives of Kanan Sachdeva, a medical student from Tantia University in Sriganganagar, and Akshay from Jaipur. Meanwhile, rescue teams safely rescued three youths, including Ansh Baweja from Sriganganagar and Sehajpreet Kaur from Sangria.

Kanan was traveling in a Creta car (RJ 13 CE 5641). She had gone to Dehradun to assist a fellow student with admission to a private educational institution. Along with Kanan, Ansh Baweja and Sehajpreet Kaur were also in the Creta. Sehajpreet is reported to be a BBA-LLB student.

The Creta was swept away for about two kilometres. Rescue teams safely rescued Ansh Baweja and Sehajpreet Kaur. Two young men were traveling in another vehicle (HR 08 AG 8743); among them, 22-year-old Sambhav was rescued, while 21-year-old Akshay of Jaipur, lost his life. Upon receiving the information, the Prem Nagar police force arrived at the scene with disaster management equipment. Teams from the SDRF and Fire Service were also immediately summoned. Sambhav, who was in the Scorpio, was the first to be rescued. Subsequently, Ansh Baweja and Sehajpreet Kaur, were brought to safety.
