The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing drive against corruption in the state, has apprehended Sub Inspector Amandeep Kaur posted at police station Phillaur district Jalandhar, red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs. 20,000/-.

Disclosing this here today, an official spokesperson of the state VB said the above-mentioned accused has been arrested based on a complaint lodged by a resident of Mohalla Choudhrian, Phillaur PS district Jalandhar.

He informed that the complainant alleged that her son had been arrested in a drug pills case and that the accused SI had demanded Rs. 20,000/- for registering a case with less quantity of drugs to help him to secure bail and for returning his mobile phone. Under compulsion, she had already paid Rs. 1,000/- as bribe. The complainant had also recorded the entire conversation regarding the demand for bribe.

Unwilling to pay the illegal gratification, complainant approached the VB range Jalandhar. Acting on his complaint, the VB team laid a trap during which the accused SI was arrested red handed while accepting bribe money of Rs 20,000/- from the complainant in presence of two official witnesses. The tainted currency notes were recovered from her possession.

In this regard, a case under prevention of corruption act has been registered against the accused at VB police station Jalandhar and further investigation into this case is under progress.
