Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring today condemned the BJP government’s decision at the centre to invoke the dreaded and draconian National Security Act (NSA) against the peacefully protesting students at Jantar Mantar.

He wondered whether the government really considered the students a threat to national security, when they were merely seeking action against the recurring paper leaks of various competitive exams including the NEET.

Instead of listening to the voices of dissent, the government was trying to gag them, he observed, while adding, such draconian laws are likely to boomerang on the government and it will have to bear the consequences.

The PCC president noted that the already prevailing anger against the Modi government was growing further and people were joining the protest in thousands. He reiterated the Congress support to the protesting students saying the party will stand by them from the roads and streets to inside the parliament house.

Warring observed that invoking the NSA only showed the panic and the nervousness of the Modi government as it has collapsed from within. History is a witness to the fact that whenever the authoritarian dictatorships have tried to resort to extreme measures they only have accelerated their own fall and end, he warned the government against trying to use draconian laws against the students.
