WEIGHTLIFTING TOURNAMENT FOR BOYS AND GIRLS (YOUTH AND JUNIOR) CONCLUDES SUCCESSFULLY

The Weightlifting Tournament for Boys and Girls in the Youth and Junior categories, organised by the Sports Department, Chandigarh Administration, concluded successfully with enthusiastic participation by young weightlifters across various age and weight categories.

The tournament provided budding weightlifters with a competitive platform to showcase their strength, technique and sporting talent. The athletes delivered commendable performances in the Snatch and Clean & Jerk events.

The closing ceremony was graced by Dr. Mahinder Singh, Joint Director Sports, Chandigarh Administration, as the Chief Guest. The other dignitaries present included Dr. Bhagwant Singh, IYA, Sports Department, Chandigarh Administration; Sh. Amrik Singh, retired Senior Weightlifting Coach, Sports Authority of India (SAI); Sh. K.D.S. Nagra, former Chief Weightlifting Coach, SAI; and Sh. Kamaldeep Singh, Secretary, Weightlifting Association of Chandigarh.

Cash Prizes

To encourage young athletes and recognise their sporting achievements, cash prizes of ₹5,000, ₹3,000 and ₹2,000 were awarded to the participants securing the first, second and third positions, respectively, in the various age and weight categories.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Mahinder Singh congratulated all the medal winners and participants. He also appreciated the efforts of the coaches, technical officials, organisers and supporting staff in ensuring the successful conduct of the tournament.

The dignitaries encouraged the young weightlifters to continue working hard and strive for excellence in the sport. The tournament offered valuable competitive exposure to emerging athletes and highlighted the promising weightlifting talent among the youth.

The Sports Department, Chandigarh Administration, reiterated its commitment to promoting weightlifting and other sports at the grassroots level and providing young sportspersons with opportunities to develop their skills and compete at higher levels.

The tournament concluded with appreciation for all the participating athletes, coaches, officials and others associated with its organisation.
