WHEN GOVT BRINGS GANGSTERS OUT OF JAILS AND APPOINTS THEM CONSTITUENCY IN-CHARGES, DRUG MAFIA IS BOUND TO RUN AMOK: SUNIL JAKHAR

Former Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar today met the families of Aman and Lovpreet, two youths from Gidderanwali village and Abohar city who had allegedly fallen victim to the drug mafia in recent days.

While sharing the families’ grief, Jakhar also thanked them for coming forward and raising their voices against drugs. He said that perhaps the anguished cries of these families could finally awaken the “deaf” Punjab government.

It may be recalled that Raman, a youth from Gidderanwali, had posted a video speaking out against drugs, following which his brother was brutally murdered. Meanwhile, Lovpreet’s body was found in bushes in Abohar.

Despite suffering an unbearable loss, Lovpreet’s mother, Balbir Kaur, and sister, Aman, showed courage by travelling to Chandigarh and exposing what they described as the harsh reality of the drug mafia, in the hope of saving other young men from falling into the same deadly trap.

Jakhar said that more people were now being killed by the drug mafia for speaking out against drugs than were losing their lives directly to drug abuse.

“When the Bhagwant Mann government brings mafia figures and gangsters out of jails and appoints them constituency in-charges, it is only natural that such criminal elements will become emboldened,” he alleged.

Jakhar said that while the Director General of Police had promised action against responsible officers, two deaths had already taken place and the police had allegedly failed even to mention drugs in the FIRs.

He said he had consistently raised his voice against the open sale of drugs in eas of Abohar and would take every possible step to stop it and ensure accountability for the officials concerned.

“We cannot leave Punjab’s sons to die at the hands of drug traffickers. We stand firmly with these families, and our struggle will continue until they receive justice,” he said.

Referring to the deteriorating law-and-order situation in the state, Jakhar claimed that even police personnel were no longer safe under the Aam Aadmi Party government.

He said the situation had become so alarming that police personnel were reportedly being advised not to travel alone, not to wear their uniforms while commuting and to use public transport.

In a message shared on social media, he wrote:

“Where is Punjab heading?”

“Criminals in Punjab no longer fear the police. Instead, it is the police who appear to be living in fear of gangsters and goons.

“Following a series of killings of police officers by criminals, the Punjab government is believed to have issued an advisory that presents the true picture of the state’s law-and-order situation.

“The advisory reportedly asks police personnel to avoid travelling alone, refrain from wearing uniforms while commuting, avoid travelling on two-wheelers and preferably use public transport.

“One cannot help but wonder whether this is the same Punjab Police that eliminated terrorism from the state.”

Abohar MLA Sandeep Jakhar was also present on the occasion.
