WINNER AND RUNNER-UP IN MUNICIPAL CORPORATION ELECTIONS DINE TOGETHER

Raj Sadosh/Abohar.

While reports of violent clashes between supporters of victorious and defeated candidates continue to surface daily in various parts of Punjab following the announcement of municipal corporation and council election results, a remarkable example of harmony was set in Ward No. 32 of the Nai Abadi area here.

The main candidates—both the winner and the runner-up—along with their supporters, shared a meal together last night during a felicitation ceremony organized for supporters.

Former Councillor Narender Verma said that from this ward, Kanta Rani Gupta (BJP)—wife of Rajesh Gupta—was declared the winner, while the mother of Rohit Gaba (AAP) was at second position. Verma seated both candidates and their respective polling agents together at a single table last night for the meal, urging them to set aside election-related tensions and join hands in a collective effort for the development of the ward. Both sides readily agreed to this proposal. Verma expressed the view that victory and defeat are an inherent part of the electoral process and should not be allowed to undermine mutual brotherhood.
