A youth, aged about 25 years, a resident of Dharam Nagari, died reportedly today due to a medicine overdose. The deceased was allegedly addicted to substances and was undergoing treatment at the government hospital.
According to information received, the family of the deceased was quoted saying that he was a substance abuser and was receiving treatment at the government hospital. Today, while the rest of the family was away at work, he was alone at home. During this time, he reportedly consumed an excessive amount of medication, causing his condition to deteriorate. Upon discovering this, his family rushed to the scene and immediately took him to the government hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
The victim’s family has been quoted saying that he used to take more of the de-addiction medication than prescribed; he had taken two pills yesterday, and today, consuming an even larger quantity caused his condition to worsen. Meanwhile, experts in de-addiction treatment state that consuming medication beyond the prescribed dosage is harmful to any patient; the victim too, had reportedly consumed an excessive number of pills.
Sources said that the government is making every possible effort to help substance abuse victims overcome their addiction. However, the situation continues to worsen day by day, as patients often feel distressed by the reduced dosage of the drug received during treatment and subsequently consume more than the prescribed amount, which proves harmful to them
