On the occasion, Olympian Tejinderpal Singh Toor, who had won gold medals in shot put at the previous two Asian Games and secured a silver medal this time, thanked Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and the Punjab Government for their support to sportspersons. He said that the government was standing by athletes and providing them the necessary support to excel in sports. He said that due to injuries sustained earlier, he could not win the gold medal this time, but with the support of his family, department and the government, he would work hard to win the gold medal at upcoming international competitions.

Olympian Toor said that the Punjab Government was taking several initiatives to provide better sports facilities to athletes and strengthen their preparation.
