PAKISTANI PEOPLE EXTEND GREETINGS TO BHAGAT SINGH ADMIRERS WORLDWIDE ON HIS 119TH BIRTH ANNIVERSARY

The Bhagat Singh Memorial Foundation Pakistan organized a commemorative ceremony at the Democratic Lawn of the Lahore High Court Bar Association to mark the 119th birth anniversary of revolutionary leader Bhagat Singh.

The ceremony was presided over by Imtiaz Rasheed Qureshi, Chairman of the Bhagat Singh Memorial Foundation Pakistan. Among those attending were Raja Zulqarnain, Advocate Supreme Court and former Secretary of the Supreme Court Bar; Pir Kaleem Khursheed Ahmed, Advocate and former President of the Supreme Court Bar; Muhammad Waheed Qureshi, Advocate; Dr. Shahid Naseer; Mian Muhammad Tariq Amin, Advocate; and Pirzada Syed Amjad Zaki, Advocate, along with a large number of members of the legal and civil society communities.

Qureshi said that Bhagat Singh was a prominent revolutionary figure in the history of the Indian subcontinent who played an important role in the struggle against British colonial rule. Bhagat Singh’s courage, political consciousness, commitment and sacrifice for freedom continue to hold historical significance for future generations. Bhagat Singh does not belong to the history of only one region or one community. He is an important part of the shared history of the Indian subcontinent.

He conveyed greetings, on behalf of the people of Pakistan, to people around the world who admire and respect Bhagat Singh on the occasion of his 119th birth anniversary. “The commemoration of Bhagat Singh at the Lahore High Court Bar carries special historical and symbolic significance because Lahore was closely connected with some of the most important events surrounding his trial and sacrifice,” he said.

Qureshi also referred to the historical record concerning Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s interventions in the Central Legislative Assembly in 1929 regarding political prisoners, hunger-striking prisoners and the proceedings against Bhagat Singh and his associates.

The participants said that recognition of Bhagat Singh’s legacy could serve as a bridge for promoting peace, mutual respect, cultural understanding and people-to-people relations between Pakistan and India
