POOJA WADHWA TAKES OVER AS THE FIRST WOMAN MAYOR OF ABOHAR

MLA SANDEEP JAKHAR CREDITS THE MEDIA AND JUDICIARY FOR MAKING THIS POSSIBLE

Pooja Wadhwa, elected as the BJP candidate, assumed office today as the first female Mayor of Abohar. Alongside her, Senior Deputy Mayor Dharamveer Malkat and Deputy Mayor Deepak Chhapola also took charge of their respective offices.

MLA Sandeep Jakhar remarked that this day would not have been possible without the historic role played by two strong pillars of democracy—the media and the judiciary—in supporting the struggle against the ruling party’s attempt to trample upon the public mandate. Addressing a jubilant gathering in the presence of outgoing Mayor Vimal Thatai, Jakhar stated that maintaining the pace of development would require public cooperation. He noted that if councillors from other political parties rise above political lines, restoring the city’s former glory would not be difficult.

Jakhar mentioned that he has sought an appointment with the Punjab Chief Minister and the Minister for Local Bodies for a delegation of councillors. Once the government accepts this request, he will lead the delegation to apprise the CM and his ministerial colleagues of the city’s deteriorating conditions and urge them to release funds for completing pending development projects. The MLA appealed to the state government to seriously consider and resolve the grievances of sanitation workers, thereby making it possible to achieve cleanliness targets.

Mayor Pooja Wadhwa expressed her heartfelt gratitude to BJP ex chief Sunil Jakhar, MLA Sandeep Jakhar, councillors and public. She pledged to make every effort to live up to the expectations and trust placed in her by the people in elevating her to this high office. The MLA garlanded the new team.
