A major development has emerged in an alleged corruption case linked to the Punjab Chief Minister’s Office during a hearing before the Punjab and Haryana High Court. Taking cognizance of the matter, the High Court has also issued a notice to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
The case pertains to letters sent by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to Punjab Director General of Police (DGP), seeking registration of an FIR and legal action in connection with alleged corruption and sharing material and evidence related to the matter.
During the hearing, the Centre informed the High Court that the ED had sent three letters to the Punjab DGP. The letters were sent on July 24, July 30 and August 7, 2026.
According to the information placed before the court, the ED had shared information and alleged evidence related to the case with the Punjab Police. The court raised questions over what action had been taken on the information provided by the central agency.
During the hearing of PIL No. 238/2026, the High Court made the CBI a party to the matter and issued a notice to the agency. The notice is expected to bring further clarity on the contents of the three ED letters, the action taken by the Punjab Police and the status of the investigation.
The ED’s communications to the Punjab DGP reportedly sought registration of an FIR and legal action in the alleged corruption case. The material shared by the agency was stated to contain evidence considered relevant for investigation.
