PUNJAB GOVERNOR FLAGS OFF SIX TONNES OF DIWALI SWEETS FOR JAWANS SERVING ON BORDERS

Face2News/Chandigarh

The Governor of Punjab and Administrator, U.T. Chandigarh Shri Gulab Chand Kataria, today flagged off two Army trucks carrying six tonnes of Diwali sweets for soldiers serving along the country’s borders, as part of Rotary’s annual initiative to share festive greetings with the jawans.

The consignment will be airlifted by the Indian Air Force (IAF) from Chandigarh for distribution among soldiers at various border locations across the country.

Commending the initiative, Shri Kataria appreciated the Rotarians for remembering the soldiers who celebrate festivals away from their families while safeguarding the nation’s borders. He said that such gestures convey the gratitude and solidarity of the people towards the armed forces and help bring festive cheer to those serving the country.

The initiative, guided by the motto ‘Aap Hain To Hum Hain’, has been carried out by Rotary since 2016. Conceived by Mrs Usha Saboo, wife of former Rotary International President Rajendra K. Saboo, the project is now actively supported by members of the Rotary Club of Chandigarh and Rotary International District 3080, informed Club President Teena Virk.

Past District Governor Madhukar Malhotra expressed gratitude to the IAF team stationed in Chandigarh for facilitating the timely airlifting of the consignment to various destinations across the country.
