The administration today earned criticism by repeating carpeting of roads despite heavy rain. A similar situation had developed before the Municipal Corporation elections last month but none learned a lesson.
MLA Sandeep Jakhar uploaded pictures on the social media asking CM Bhagwant Mann why “thuk” (spit) was being allowed instead of Luk (bitumen) to carpet the roads here during heavy rain.
As soon as the carpeting work started at Haqiqat Rai Chowk and Krishna Nagari, it started raining heavily, despite this, the work was not halted and gravel of the road started getting uprooted. Councilors Puneet Arora and Vinay Kumar and others reached the spot and expressed anger over the work.
The councilors said that this is a complete waste of money, its being drained which will not be allowed. They said that the Punjab CM, while taking a dig at other parties in the name of development works, used to say that other parties build roads not with “luk” but with “thuk”, which do not last even for a few years, but now in his own government, “thuk” replaced “luk”.
They said that the weather department had sounded an alert about the bad weather, then why the administration ignored it while allowing carpeting that is normally done in scorching heat. It was better to wait for sunny days instead of misuse of public money. They warned to launch a struggle against siphoning of the precious public funds.
