The Sirsa MP, Former Union Minister, General Secretary of All India Congress Committee and CWC Member Kumari Selja expressed serious concern over the reported rise in criminal incidents across Haryana, alleging that the law-and-order situation in the state was deteriorating.

Kumari Selja said incidents of murder, robbery, extortion and firing had created a sense of insecurity among citizens. She urged the government to move beyond political statements and claims about improving law and order and take effective measures on the ground to curb crime. She said criminals appeared increasingly emboldened, with serious incidents being reported even during the daytime.

Referring to recent incidents in Fatehabad and Panipat, Kumari Selja questioned why the fear of law and the police appeared to be diminishing among offenders.She also referred to an alleged firing incident outside the office of Congress MLA Balram Dangi in Rohtak, reportedly carried out by motorcycle-borne assailants in front of a police station. Calling the incident serious, she said that if elected representatives, traders and shopkeepers did not feel safe, concerns over the security of ordinary families were bound to grow. Kumari Selja said Haryana had traditionally been known for development, prosperity, social harmony, farmers, soldiers and sportspersons, but repeated reports of crime were affecting the state’s image. She said protecting the life and property of citizens was the government’s foremost constitutional responsibility. The government, she added, could not establish improved law and order merely through statistics and statements.

Kumari Selja urged the government to strengthen policing and launch effective action against criminals and organised gangs involved in serious offences. She also called upon the government to take questions raised by the Opposition seriously and establish accountability for lapses. “People want to know why criminals are becoming increasingly emboldened and when citizens will be able to live without fear,” she said, urging immediate steps to restore the rule of law in Haryana.
