VETERINARIAN MURDER: ABOHAR-GANGANAGAR HIGHWAY BLOCKED, PROTESTERS DEMAND SHO’S SUSPENSION

Public outrage over the brutal murder of Amandeep Singh, a young veterinary doctor from Gidderanwali village, shows no signs of abating. Even on the third day following the incident, the family flatly refused to allow a post-mortem examination of the body. Hundreds of people staged a dharna and blockade on Abohar-Sriganganagar National Highway. The protesters demanded the suspension of the Khuian Sarwar SHO for alleged negligence.

According to the family, the deceased’s brother, Ramandeep, had made a video a week earlier exposing drug smugglers active in the area. It is alleged that the arrested accused—Manish Kumar, Sajan Singh, and Jagmeet Singh—are linked to that same drug-smuggling gang.

After the video went viral, the accused had issued death threats to the family. The family states that they had handed over the threatening video and a formal complaint to the police, but the authorities failed to treat the matter seriously. Had the police acted in time, Amandeep’s life could have been saved.

Former Punjab BJP President Sunil Jakhar, in a message, said that until now, the sons of Punjab were dying because of drugs, but now those who raise their voice against drugs are either being forced to commit suicide under pressure from ministers or are being killed by goons of the drug mafia, while the police remain mute spectators. In Gidderanwali village, a young man posted a video against a drug trafficker. He received threats, but the police took no action. Ultimately, his brother, Amandeep, was brutally murdered by people associated with the drug mafia.

The drug situation in Punjab has now gone completely out of control and the government appears to have virtually disappeared from the state. Nowadays, even raising one’s voice against drugs has become a crime. This, he said, is evidence of the complete collapse of the state’s administrative machinery.
