VISUALLY IMPAIRED WOMEN FROM MAHARASHTRA CELEBRATE RAKSHA BANDHAN AT SADQI

Raj Sadosh/Abohar.

A group of visually impaired women from Maharashtra organized a Raksha Bandhan event at the international Sadqi JCP near Fazilka.

Liladhar Sharma, President of the Border Area Development Front, shared that these women—who had travelled thousands of kilometres to reach the border—tied Rakhis (which they had crafted themselves) onto the wrists of BSF officers and border guards. They also applied tilak to the soldiers’ foreheads, performed aarti, and offered their best wishes.

Lata Iyer, Deputy General Manager, New India Assurance Company, Mumbai, explained that her team, representing the Prerna Association for the Blind (Maharashtra), undertakes this long and arduous journey to the border to demonstrate their patriotic spirit.

Addressing BSF personnel, Madhukar Suryavanshi said that while they guard the nation at the border, the group would ensure the soldiers did not feel the absence of their sisters; the visually impaired women, too, were their sisters.

On this occasion, Aarti Linje Rukwal and Ravinder Singh Rukwal presented the soldiers with handmade gifts and extended their best wishes. After enjoying the Retreat Ceremony, the women and their accompanying support staff sang songs dedicated to Raksha Bandhan. At the conclusion of the event, social workers Surinder Mulari and Paramjit Kaur, extended special thanks to the entire visiting team from Maharashtra.
