Raj Sadosh/Abohar.

Incidents of theft and looting continue uninterrupted in the city, even at a few meters distance from the City-2 police station. Last night, burglars targeted several shops in the old wall city and Nai Abadi and made away with cash and goods worth thousands of rupees.

Praveen Kumar, operator of Brothers Hub Readymade Garments in Nai Abadi, said that today morning, he found the shutters and locks broken. Garments worth about Rs 50 thousand were missing from inside the shop. Apart from this, cash more than Rs 10,000 was also stolen. In the CCTV footage, three youths were seen roaming in the street late at night, with sharp weapons in their hands.

A barber shop on Kandhwala Road was also targeted by thieves. Pritam said that the thieves broke the locks of the shutter and took away cash from the shop. He said that his shop had been robbed before also.

Suspects broke the locks of Shiv Dayal Angrej Kumar Iron Store located on Railway Station Road and stole cash worth Rs 5,000. About Rs 5,000 was also stolen from Arvind Soni’s iron shop near Rani Jhansi Market.

Apart from this, a blacksmith Gopi Ram said that the thieves broke one lock of his shop, but the other lock could not be broken. Due to which the incident of theft was averted. Along with this, the thieves tried to steal metal pipes from the Amardeep Electric Press located opposite of the PM Shree Govt Branch High School but failed. Local office of Punjab Kesari Group reporter Sunil Bhardwaj is located in the same building. The pipes and the shed of the shop were found damaged. It is noteworthy that even before this, pipes from two shops on the railway station road were stolen by thieves. These incidents have triggered panic, locals demanded night patrolling by the police needs to be regularised.
