MP (Rajya Sabaha) Sanjeev Arora has expressed his views on the deteriorating condition of Textile Industry across the Country. While speaking during zero hour in the ongoing winter session of Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, he categorically stated that the Textile Industry, especially spinning industry, is in bad shape.

Arora said the country’s textile industry needs immediate attention of the government because it is running into losses. He pointed out that presently, the textile industry is running on an average at around 50 per cent capacity across the country. Therefore, he asserted that immediate action should be taken by the Ministry of Textile and Finance to protect the industry.

He apprised the House that more than 45 million workers are directly employed by industry besides indirect beneficiaries. Arora pointed out that there are chances of huge unemployment and also a huge amount of NPA, if immediate measures are not taken to safeguard interests of the industry.

He suggested that there is a need to make import of Cotton and Polyester Fibers duty free to save the industry.

Arora also suggested that anti-dumping duty should be imposed on duty free imports of polyester yarn from countries falling under ASEAN FTA.

Also, he suggested that export incentives need to be given, which should be unprecedented.

Concluding his address, he stated laid stress on the need to help industry. He said it will help in achieving Made in India Mission by making imports of Raw Material cheaper and finished products costlier.
