General Secretary of All India Congress Committee, former Union Minister,Congress Working Committee member and former Haryana Congress State President Kumari Selja has said that the BJP-JJP coalition government is not serious about the deaths due to poisonous liquor in Yamunanagar and Ambala.

That is why a pretence is being made to form an SIT and conduct an investigation. If the state government wants to get to the bottom of the poisonous liquor issue, then it should get the deaths investigated by the Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court without any delay. Without investigation by a sitting justice, neither the real culprits will be punished nor such incidents will be prevented from happening in future.

In a statement issued to the media, Kumari Selja said that in the year 2020, more than 40 people had lost their lives due to poisonous liquor in Sonipat, Panipat and Faridabad. At that time too, a similar pretense of forming an SIT was created in the name of investigation.

(SUBHEAD)After some time, the people of the state forgot so many deaths and now within three years, poisonous liquor has taken the lives of more than 20 people in Yamunanagar and Ambala. The former Union Minister said that if we look at the tenure of BJP after assuming power in the year 2014 and also the tenure of its ally JJP in the year 2019, then the deaths due to poisonous liquor in the state have set a record. There has never been such a large number of deaths in the state as have occurred within these 9 years. Every time the coalition government, which claims to be strict, is exposed to death again.

Kumari Selja said that how serious the state government is regarding the testing of liquor samples can be gauged from the fact that between May and October this year, the Excise and Taxation Department took 57 samples from Yamunanagar district alone and sent them to Panchkula Lab. Sent in, but the investigation report of even one of them has not come yet.

After the poisonous liquor incident came to light, the state government claimed to have collected 190 samples of liquor, whereas even one of these samples could not be sent to the lab even after more than 20 samples were taken.

The former Union Minister said that most of those who lost their lives after drinking poisonous liquor in the state were poor and hardworking people. After his death, his family faces a crisis of livelihood, because a person who supports his family by working as a daily wage labourer has lost his life after getting trapped in the clutches of the mafia that manufactures and supplies poisonous liquor. Their families, rendered destitute due to the mistake of the state government, should also be taken care of
