RENU, GUG KAUR, DEEPAK AND BALRAM EMERGE WINNERS IN ABOHAR MARATHON

In the “Run against Drugs” marathon organised by the Jakhar Trust here, in the men's category of 5km race, Deepak Kumar stood first, Arish stood second. Gug Kaur stood first in the 5km women's category, Nanshika stood second.

In the men's 10km race, Balram stood first, Prashant Choudhary stood second. In the 10km women's category, Renu Singh stood first, Shreya stood second. The winners were also honored with medals and cash on behalf of the Trust. Some athletes, aged above 70 years, who also graced the occasion, were honoured.

About 8,500 people participated in the 4th “Run against Drugs” marathon that was flagged of at Bhagat Singh Chowk by MLA Sandeep Jakhar, The Jakhar Trust members Gurbachan Singh Saran and Jaiveer Jakhar, Bharat Krishak Samaj chairman Ajayveer Jakhar and Mayor Vimal Thatai. The MLA also ran together in the marathon.

Sandeep Jakhar said that with the aim of taking the youth away from drugs by associating them with sports, the trust had been organising various competitions. In the first marathon, the number of participants was 2,000. It increased to 4,000 in the second and 6,000 in the third event in which Olympian Pragat Singh had also participated. He said that at present, drug addiction has become a serious problem about which there is a great need to apprise the youth.
