Haryana Director General of Police Shatrujeet Kapur attended the closing ceremony of the 72nd All India Police Wrestling Competition 2023 in Madhuban, Karnal as the Chief Guest. He said that the sporting event not only showcased extraordinary sporting talent but also created a bond of camaraderie and fellowship among police personnel across the country. It has also provided a platform to promote social harmony. He said that through such sports events, a sense of community and mutual respect is built that transcends geographical boundaries.

Speaking on the occasion, the Director General of Police said that the police force has the important responsibility of ensuring the safety of citizens, including maintaining law and order and discharging the duties with justice and honesty. Amidst all these responsibilities, it is also important to pay attention to the well-being and physical fitness of all policemen.

He said that wrestling is not just a sport but it is a testament to the resilience, strength, and determination of the human spirit. It depicts the challenges and struggles that policemen face every day in the line of duty. He said that through willpower and skill these players have displayed exemplary sportsmanship throughout the competition.

He also expressed his gratitude to the All India Police Sports Control Board on this occasion. On this occasion, he congratulated all the participants and winners who gave their best performance rising above the spirit of competition.

On behalf of All India Police Sports Control Board, the central body of police sports, Joint Director of Intelligence Bureau, Vidhu Shekhar talked about the achievements of the board and police players. He congratulated and expressed gratitude to the Haryana Police for successfully organizing the competition. As per tradition, he took permission from the DGP of the host police to keep the flag of the Sports Board under safekeeping till the upcoming event.

On the closing occasion of the competition, Organizing Committee Secretary and IGP Kulwinder Singh said that earlier there has been a tradition of taking the help of sponsors in such events, but for the first time, as per the instructions of the Director General of Police, the entire expense of the event has been borne from the Sports Fund of Haryana Police. He said that Haryana Police has had the opportunity to host the All India Police Games for the 18th time with the organization of this competition.

He said that in this wrestling competition, 2561 players and policemen from a total of 36 teams from different states, central police forces, and union territories have participated, which includes 1820 male and 741 female players, besides 223 technical officers. He said that in this sports competition which started on October 4, players of wrestling, kabaddi, boxing, weightlifting, bodybuilding, powerlifting, and arm wrestling have displayed their talent and won a total of more than 2,100 medals.

On this occasion, Deputy Inspector General of Police Dr. Arun Singh expressed his gratitude to all the guests, participating players, competition directors, coaches, and support staff including the concerned policemen who came at the closing ceremony of All India Police Wrestling Cluster 2023 for the successful organization of the games.

Results of the competition:

The 72nd All India Police Wrestling Cluster 2023 witnessed the triumph of exceptional athletes who displayed their incredible strength and skills across various disciplines. In arm wrestling, Kerala emerged as the men's winner, while Haryana secured the men's runner-up title.

In the women's category, Haryana continued its dominance by securing the top position, while Rajasthan was the runner-up in the women's category.

Bodybuilders from Maharashtra won both the men's and women's categories, while Punjab secured the runner-up position. Haryana and ITBP were celebrated as boxing champions for men and women respectively, with BSF as men's runners-up and BSF as women's runners-up. In Kabaddi, CISF emerged victorious in the men's category, while Rajasthan was the runner-up.

In the women's category, Rajasthan was the winner and CISF was the runner-up. There were excellent performances in the powerlifting and weightlifting categories, with Maharashtra dominating in women's powerlifting and Uttar Pradesh emerging victorious in men's powerlifting. Similarly, CRPF dominated in men's and women's weightlifting. Finally, in wrestling, CISF emerged as champions in men's freestyle and Greco-Roman, while ITBP clinched the women's freestyle title. CRPF and Punjab put in strong performances to claim runner-up positions in various categories.
