UNION MINISTER SOM PARKASH LAID THE FOUNDATION STONE OF THE GIRL’S HOSTEL AT FDDI BANUR.

Minister for State Commerce and Industries, Shri Som Parkash (IAS Retd. ) laid the foundation stone of the girl’s hostel at FDDI Banur. The Girl's hostel will have the capacity to accommodate 242 female students. The Managing Director of FDDI, Shri Arun Kumar Sinha graced the occasion as guest of honor.

He appreciated the efforts of FDDI in imparting professional education in the fields of footwear design, fashion design, leather and lifestyle product design, and retail and fashion merchandise. Shri Som Parkash said that there is a good future in shoe and leather-related industries in Punjab.

(SUBHEAD)In the present time, there is a need to put more emphasis on product quality. He mentioned that there was a giant footwear industry in Jalandhar, Punjab, but due to some reasons it kept lagging behind. In today's era of fashion and competition, there is a need to improve the quality of products, and such institutions play an important role in improving the quality and bringing Indian products to the world stage.

Shri Parkash said that various schemes are being run by the government of India to establish self-employment, through which subsidies and loans are being provided to the people.. He said that employment opportunities are being created in the country due to such efforts of the Government . He also urged the Managing Director of the Institute to provide information to people about various welfare schemes being run by the Central Government so that they could take advantage of them.

Union Minister appreciated the exhibition of shoes, handbags etc. designed by the students and also interacted with the industrialists of the shoe and leather industries and discussed steps for the promotion of Punjab's industries.

The Managing Director Shri Arun Kumar Sinha said that the institute started in 2018 and the first batch of students completed their course in 2022. This institute gave an opportunity to the students of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand to show their skills in the footwear industry.

He said that this institute is also playing an important role in the Beti Bachao and Beti Padhao schemes launched by the Honorable Prime Minister. Students from different states of the country are taking courses at this institute. Provision has been made to build a state-of-the-art hostel for 242 girl students. The total cost of the project is Rs 16 crore.

The Executive Director of the Institute, Ms. Pragya Singh, offered a vote of thanks to the chief guest, guest of honors, distinguished guest, and media persons.
