In a joint operation that took place during the wee hours today, the troops belonging to Counter Intelligence (CI) wing of Punjab police and BSF, nabbed two Pakistani drug smugglers and recovered 26 packets of heroin weighing 29.26 kg from an area close to Indo-Pakistan border.

As per the information, one of the arrested Pakistani smuggler got injured during the shootout. BSF officials said that the incident took place at around 2.45 am today when the joint team of CI wing and 182 battalion of BSF carried out a search operation near village Gatti Mathar, situated near Sutlej along the zero line.

(SUBHEAD)During the operation, the joint team observed movement of two Pakistani smugglers coming from Pakistan side towards the Indian territory. The troops challenged the smugglers but they continued their misadventure following which the BSF troops fired towards them during which one smuggler was reportedly hit on his hand. Later, both the smugglers were apprehended and the consignment of heroin was recovered.

It is pertinent to mention here due to the current floodlike situation, the cross border drug peddlers had been trying to take advantage and exploit the riverine gaps and sending huge consignments of heroin during the recent times.

The contraband recovered valued Rs. 150 cfrores in international market.

Earlier on August 16, three kg heroin was recovered during a joint operation of BSF and CI wing sleuths.

On August 6, the sleuths belonging to Counter Intelligence (CI) Wing had recovered 77 kg heroin along with three pistols and had arrested four drug smugglers. On July 23 also, the CI wing had recovered 20 kg heroin.
