BRIDGE CONNECTING MORE THAN 20 VILLAGES DAMAGED AGAIN

More than four dozen villages have been submerged due to heavy discharge of water in this district. The residents of these villages are moving to safer places to save their lives. As per information available, 284947 cusec water had been released downstream from Harike Headworks while 258910 cusec water was released downstream from Hussainiwala Headworks. At Hussasiniwala, 24 gates have been opened out of 29 gates which indicates they heavy flow of water.
(MOREPIC1) Special teams of NDRF, Indian Army, BSF and Punjab Police have been deputed for the rescue operations during which more than two thousand people have been evacuated and rescued. However, the problems of the residents of these villages including Kaluwala, Tendiwala, Hajara, Gatti Rajo ke, Nai Gatti, Chandi Wala, Jallo ke, Ruknewala, Dheera Ghara, Nihala Lavera, Bandala, Talli Gram, Kale ke Hithar, Rana Panj Grain, Habib ke, Gajniwala, Baggewala seems far away to be over.
(SUBHEAD)Meanwhile, the bridge connecting more than twenty villages at Hajara village had been damaged due to heavy discharge of Sutlej water. Earlier, this bridge had collapsed on July 13 and was repaired by the administration with the help of villagers.
All these villages situated along the Sutlej had already been affected due to floods few weeks back. However, the water had started receding due to which the villagers were limping back to normalcy, but suddenly during the last two days, it has again gone up due to which these villages have been submerged again following the release of water from Harike Headworks.
Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Dhiman said that the administration has informed the villagers regarding the situation by making public announcements. “The administration has already pressed more than 500 jawans of Army, BSF and Punjab police into service for the rescue operations. Since last night the rescue operation is on”, said DC Dhiman.
