The initiatives taken by the administration in Fazilka district have given courage to the people to fearlessly face the Sutlej water fury. As per the advice of the administration, some people have come to safe places, however there is no water in the populated areas.

The life of the people inside the villages is going on as usual. Women were seen engaged in household chores, while students were seen studying at home due to holidays in schools. It is exciting for students Harnoor and Manav because they have seen water like this for the first time.

The children of the new generation and youths are also on the water side. They were eager to come and see because they were seeing this scene for the first time in their lives.(SUBHEAD)

For the elderly who have seen the floods of 1988, the water this time is insignificant. The people of these border villages, where the Sutlej flows, have already built their villages and houses on high places, sensing the danger of the incoming water of the Sutlej.

In most of the villages of the area, the farmers had to plant Basmati Rice, the planting of which is still pending. According to the farmers, they will be able to start planting basmati by next week after the water recedes.

Apart from this, most of the farmers who had planted groundnut before basmati worked fast and managed to harvest the crop before the water gushed in. While on the upstream side of the creek, life is completely normal and one has the Sutlej in mind. There are no worries as the administration is constantly keeping vigil on the dam.
