MEET HAYER REVIEWS THE STATUS OF WATER RESERVOIRS, ALSO VISITS SYL CANAL ON RAJPURA-BANUR ROAD

WATER RESOURCES MINISTER INSTRUCTS OFFICIALS AND EMPLOYEES TO KEEP SURVEILLANCE ON THE GROUND LEVEL SITUATION 24X7, SANDBAGS, CLEANING MACHINES AND OTHER NECESSARY ITEMS ARE BEING PROVIDED

To take stock of the situation caused by continuous heavy rains falling across the state and in hilly areas, Water Resources Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer held a meeting at the department head office located in Sector 18 here today and took stock of the situation of water reservoirs. Earlier, the Water Resources Minister also visited the Sutlej Yamuna Link (SYL) site near Chitkara University on Rajpura-Banur Road to see the situation firsthand. 

Meet Hayer said that on the instructions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the department is keeping an eye on every situation and preparations have been made to deal with any untoward incident. The safety of life and property of people is being ensured by the district civil and police administration through coordinating with the NDRF teams. 

The Minister directed all the officials and employees of the department to keep 24X7 surveillance on the ground level and asked them to report it continuously. Special vigilance was asked to kept at vulnerable places. He said that sandbags, cleaning machines and other necessary equipment are being provided in the field. (SUBHEAD)

Meet Hayer said that the water level in the three dams is currently less than the capacity and the department is keeping a close eye on the whole situation. The current water level in Bhakra Dam is 1614.89 feet against the capacity of 1680 feet. The current water level in Pong Dam is 1350.63 feet compared to the capacity of 1390 feet while the water capacity of Ranjit Sagar Dam is 1731.99 and the current water level is 1706.26 feet. 

Principal Secretary Water Resources Krishan Kumar and Chief Engineer Canals NK Jain were also present in the meeting.
