The Vishwa Jain Sangathan (VJS) has welcomed the Centre’s decision to withdraw the proposed Livestock and Livestock Products (Importation and Exportation) Bill, 2023. If passed, the bill could have paved the way for the promotion of the export of live animals.
VJS national president Sanjay Jain said that a letter dated on June 20 (issued under the signature of Joint Secretary GN Singh) from the central govt wastoday received which said that comments/suggestions on June 7 on the draft Bill were invited from all stakeholder within 10 days. However, during the consultation, it has been viewed that enough time is required to understand the proposed draft. Further, the representations expressed concerns on the proposed draft involving sensitivity and emotions with animal welfare and related aspects. Considering this with the approval of the competent authority, the proposed draft Bill stands withdrawn.
Dr Sandeep Kumar Jain, former member of Indian Animal Welfare Board and Punjab coordinator of Vishwa Jain Sangathan, expressed gratitude to all animal lovers and dignitaries working in the field of animal welfare, who have made continuous efforts in this direction. They have demanded from the Government of India that pending for years, the Animal Cruelty Prevention Act should be completed and passed in the Lok Sabha.
