TOUCHING DEPICTION OF THE LIFE OF DWARFS IN 'TAMASHBEEN'

Dwarves have ambitions like normal humans, which they wish to achieve, but society only sees them from the perspective of a spectacle. People of short stature are ridiculed by the society, while they too have desires to pass like others. People take them as a laughing stock.

What kind of mentality and concept the society has towards the dwarf people; this was portrayed very well in the play “Tamashbeen” staged under the banner of Rashtriya Kala Mandir in Sriganganagar. Written by well-known artist Mohanlal Dadarwal and directed by Vijay Jora, this one-and-a-half-hour production brought out the human side of dwarfs while keeping their funny side. 

(SUBHEAD)Shiva Charan, Rakesh Nayak, Hrithik Meghwal, Poojakshi Jagga, Sonu Nayak, Nikita, Mohanlal Dadarwal and Vijay Jora gave stellar performances. 

Chief guest Anju Saini and special guest Ajay Gupta appreciated the staging. Dwarf couple Sheeshpal-Limba, who came to watch the play, said that the life and mentality of people of short stature like them have been raised very well in the play. Patron of the NGO Vijay Goyal said that this play should be staged on a large scale. President Virendra Vaid said that Rashtriya Kala Mandir will continue to promote and encourage talents. 

Mohan Dadarwal said that theme of the play underlines the problems faced in personal life. Director Vijay Jora said that like experimental cinema, some innovative experiments were done in theatre. The guests honored all the artists and those who contributed to the presentation by giving mementos. Vijay Jora, who has been working in the field of acting and direction for the last 28 years, and Sadhu Ram Bhatiwal, director of Goodwill Taylor, who has been collaborating for costumes in Kala Mandir events for almost 23 years, were specially honoured. Bajrang Jalap, Surinder and backstage assistant Anil Singh were also felicitated. The stage was conducted by Sunil Sharma.
